The Preceptory was Consecrated by the Provincial Prior, Arthur Northcroft Butler,
on 24th May 1963, becoming the fourth Preceptory in the Province and the second in
Wiltshire. It was named after the church which has stood at the west end of the High
Street in Marlborough since Norman times. The future Cardinal Wolsey was ordained
there in 1498. The church was made redundant in 1974 and is now used as an Arts Centre
for the benefit of the town.
Of the twenty four Founders, sixteen were members of William Longespee and five of
Antiquity Encampment No. 1 at Bath, continuing the long association of the Encampment
with the Province.
